Unlocking God’s Plan for Your Life Today
Have you ever asked yourself, Am I living the life God planned for me? Perhaps you’ve wondered if you made a wrong turn somewhere—whether by choosing a certain career, buying a home on your own, or not following the path others expected. These questions can weigh heavily, especially in seasons of singleness. But today, I want to shift your perspective.
Is Life Really “All Planned Out”?
Some people believe every detail of life is preordained by God. For example, after I married my husband Fred and moved to the Midwest, a woman at church told me our union was meant to be. But this same Fred had been married twice before. Was each of his previous marriages—and divorces—also part of God’s plan?
I don’t believe God orchestrates every choice we make. Rather, we have agency. Fred’s past marriages were the result of human decisions, not a divine script. While God has an overarching Plan for all His children, He also grants us the freedom to create our individual paths.
So, how much control does God have over your life? And how much do you have? Let’s explore these questions.
The Bigger Picture: God’s Plan for You
God’s Plan—often called the Plan of Salvation, Happiness, or Redemption—is centered on Jesus Christ. Through Him, all of us can receive forgiveness, redemption, and eternal life. In Moses 1:39, we learn, “For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.”
This grand Plan assures us of God’s love and purpose. But while His Plan sets the framework, we’re invited to actively participate. That’s where the concept of divine design comes in.
What Is Divine Design?
Divine design means recognizing that your life—even in singleness—is rich with potential, purpose, and opportunities to co-create with God. Singleness isn’t just a waiting room for marriage or a holding pattern until your next big milestone. It’s a season filled with gifts and possibilities.
To uncover your divine design, let’s examine four aspects of your life:
Your Gifts from God As a daughter of God, you’ve inherited spiritual gifts and talents. These gifts aren’t just for your benefit; they’re meant to bless others and glorify God. To discover yours, search the scriptures—particularly Romans 12, 1 Peter 4, and 1 Corinthians 12—and reflect on how these gifts manifest in your life. Then, talk with God and ask for clarity about your unique blessings.
Your Passions What lights you up? What activities or interests bring you joy? These passions are clues to your divine design. Take time to list the things that excite you. If you get stuck, pause, pray, and ask God to reveal what He’s planted in your heart. These passions can guide you toward a fulfilling and purposeful life.
Your Skills What have you become good at through training, practice, or natural ability? Consider both the talents you’ve honed and the ones that come effortlessly. Ask yourself, What do others say I’m good at? Write everything down, and don’t hesitate to ask God for additional insights.
Your Battles and Victories Reflect on the challenges you’ve faced and overcome. What strengths emerged from those struggles? What lessons have you learned through life’s ups and downs? These experiences shape your resilience and equip you to bless others. List your victories and recognize them as integral to your divine design.
Crafting Your Unique Path
Once you’ve explored these four areas, take a moment to review your findings. You’ve uncovered gifts, passions, skills, and victories—all of which reveal how God has equipped you for this season of life. Ask yourself:
What do I want to do with all this?
How can I design this season of my life with the resources I have?
Remember, singleness isn’t a period to simply endure while waiting for something better. It’s an intentional, meaningful chapter filled with potential and purpose. Embrace it as an opportunity to design a life aligned with God’s Plan and your divine gifts.
You Are Enough, Right Now
Your life—as it is today—isn’t a mistake. It’s a canvas where you and God can co-create something beautiful. By embracing your divine design, you’re stepping into a life of joy, fulfillment, and purpose. So, take that list of gifts, passions, skills, and victories, and start dreaming. The possibilities are endless.
